"History
Laid Bare"
by Richard Zacks
Harper Collins, 1994
This book answers all
the important historical questions that a bachelor has: who did what to
whom and when. Learning about the past was never so much fun. This is the
history that they never taught you in schools. From ancient hedonistic
to presidential mistresses, this books tell it all. To some extent, the
classic bachelor asking a young thing to come up and see his etchings is
tame to what some of history's most notable people have done. There are
accounts of Cleopatra's seduction of Marc Anthony, first-hand accounts
of Roman orgies, Ben Franklin's essay on the joys on older women, Mark
Twain' s speach on masturbation, examples of the Victorians outward prudishness
and inward wantonness, and American presidents who literally kept their
mistresses in closets in the White House (some things never change). What
makes this books a needed addition to a bachelor's library are the actual
reprints of correspondence and essays that were written about these subjects.
Memorize some of these stories, they make great icebreakers at cocktail
parties.
