"Reckless"
by Joan Sherman
Venus Books, 1952
The back cover reads:
"As he took her in his arms and drew her to him, the rising excitement
made her breathless, unable to resist him. She was too shaken by the dark
tide that swirled up and over her and engulfed her, to realize the deftness,
the expertness of his kiss...It was tender, demanding...It shook her to
the very depths of her being until she felt weak and spent...His voice
was a mere whisper, scarcely strong enough to bear the burden of desire
that it carried. 'I need you'...With the last shred of reality slipping
from her, she cried, 'No--we mustn't!'"
Reckless
is the story of Julia, a 26-year-old, shy, legal office secretary who has
never known the pleasures of love...that is until she meets her new boss,
Hank the playboy lawyer. But Julia's life is further complicated by an
overbearing mother and a handsome widower sailor who moves in across the
street. Soon, Juila gives into her desires and quickly becomes a heartbreaking
nymphomaniac (isn't that always the way it goes). Will Julia choose the
caring sailor or the fun and wild lawyer or will she just explore her new-found
passions with any man she can find? All these questions and more are answered
in Reckless.
This is one of these
great tawdry paperbacks that includes sultry photos within the story "specially
posed by professional models." Also, this books includes one of the greatest
pulp paperback plot devices/cliches--the dreaded roadside motel vice raid!
The turning point when the good girl realized she been bad--very, very
bad.
