"How
To Succeed In Singles' Bars (For Men Only)"
by Cathi Chamberlain
CCC Publications, 1986
Who should know more
about getting picked up in a singles bar than a ex-Playboy Bunny, right?
It's an old writers saying; write about what you know. This simple little
manual can help every Mr. Wrong become a Mr. Right, with its handy do and
don't lists and chapter summaries. She wants to make sure you don't forget
the lessons she's taught you. She's seen way too many Mr. Wrong's in her
life and would like to meet a Mr. Right for a change, dammit. So, for those
of who who want to be a hit the next time you go out to the singles' bars,
here's a partial list of things Mr. Right does when he sees a pretty woman
all alone: He makes sure he's wearing "the current fashions--well-tailored
suits o designer jeans and a stylish shirt." He "looks and smiles often
to assure her of his interest." He "sends a drink over to the lady
with a clever message." He "stays at her table only a moment, creates mystery,
returns later" and "devotes complete attention to her and is a gentleman."
He then "directly requests her after-hours company at an all-night restaurant."
And, when it's all said and done, he calls her again. She can't stress
this last point enough. It's fine to be honest, confident, and self-assured,
but, for god's sake, call her the next day. Is that too much to ask?
