"The
Wife Traders"
by G.A. Graeme
Newsstand Library Books, 1959
The back cover reads:
"What started out to be a friendly bridge game once a week graduated into
a 'fun and games' free-for-all...with 'love me--love my wife' heading the
list. But when the rate for exchange became a hefty payoff, the membership
dropped suddenly and violently--through suicide and murder!"
It's the joys of wife-swapping
and a hard boiled mystery all wrapped into one. Our hero, the rugged newspaper
man Chuck Tomkins, goes one night to cover a murder of two nude corpses
and the next you know he's deep in the realm of suburban sin. Tomkins has
to deal with the wives' eager hands and their husbands' angry fists. It's
a sexual merry-go-round hidden deep within the peace and quiet of the well-to-do
neighborhoods. It all starts with a innocent game of bridge, then on to
strip poker, then, before you know it, couples are frolicking naked in
the woods. It sounds all well and good, but under the surface lies the
threat of blackmail and violence. It's all there waiting to be exposed
and scooped by our fearless reporter.
